Frequently Asked Questions

Bladins International School of Malmö, BISM, is an authorised IB World School in Malmö. We offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, PYP, and Middle Years Programme, MYP, for students from 6 to 16 years of age.

Our international community brings together students from around 50 countries. We aim to provide a welcoming, academically challenging and caring learning environment where students develop knowledge, confidence, curiosity and an international perspective.

The International Baccalaureate is an internationally recognised educational framework with a strong focus on inquiry, critical thinking, academic development and international understanding.

At BISM, students are encouraged not only to develop subject knowledge, but also to make connections, ask questions, reflect on their learning and take increasing responsibility for their own development.

BISM offers two IB programmes:

Primary Years Programme, PYP, for students aged approximately 6 to 11.

Middle Years Programme, MYP, for students aged approximately 11 to 16.

Together, PYP1 to MYP5 provide a continuous international education and prepare students for further studies in Sweden or internationally.

English is the main language of instruction at BISM. Language development is an important part of an IB education, and students in MYP study at least two languages.

As an international school in Sweden, we also recognise the importance of preparing students for different educational pathways and future studies, both internationally and within the Swedish education system.

As an international school operating under Swedish School Law, BISM can admit students who meet at least one of the eligibility criteria for international schools. These include children who are living in Sweden for a limited period, have previously lived or studied abroad, are expected to move abroad for a longer period, or use English as their daily language with one or both guardians and have sufficient English to follow the education.

Yes, provided that the child meets the eligibility requirements for admission to an international school under Swedish School Law.

For example, a child may be eligible if English is their daily language of communication with one or both guardians and they have sufficient knowledge of English to follow the programme.

BISM has rolling admissions, which means applications can be submitted throughout the academic year.

We recommend applying as early as possible, as the number of places is limited.

Applications are submitted through BISM’s online application system. As part of the admissions process, the school reviews the student’s eligibility, previous education and appropriate year level.

You can find the application and further information on our Admissions pages.

No. Families whose children attend Bladins Preschool must submit a separate application to BISM.

Sibling priority may apply, provided that the family meets BISM’s admission requirements. As places are limited, we recommend applying in good time.

Placement is primarily based on the child’s year of birth, using the calendar year from January to December. Previous education is also taken into consideration, so individual placement may sometimes differ. More information can be found under the year levels page

Our Admissions team can help you identify the appropriate year level for your child.

The PYP is designed for students aged approximately 6 to 11 and focuses on the development of the whole child.

Learning is inquiry-based and encourages students to be curious, ask questions, make connections and take increasing responsibility for their learning. Academic, social and emotional development are all important parts of the programme.

PYP programme

The MYP is designed for students aged approximately 11 to 16. It encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers.

Students study across eight subject groups and are encouraged to connect their learning to real-world issues. The programme develops academic knowledge alongside communication, independent learning, intercultural understanding and responsible action.

MYP programme

Students can continue to a range of upper secondary pathways, including the IB Diploma Programme and other international programmes, as well as Swedish gymnasium programmes where the relevant entry requirements are met.

BISM aims to provide students with guidance that supports informed choices about their next step, whether their future education is in Sweden or abroad.

BISM offers a Fritids programme for eligible younger students. More information about the programme, opening hours and application process can be found on the Fritids Programme page.
